The World's Most Unlikely Survivor

Somewhere in the remote forests of New Zealand, a large, round, flightless parrot is waddling through the dark — and somehow, impossibly, it's still here. The Kakapo is the world's heaviest parrot, the only flightless parrot, and one of the longest-living birds on Earth. It is also one of the rarest.

On the Brink

By the 1990s, the Kakapo had been hunted, poisoned, and preyed upon to near-extinction — fewer than 50 individuals remained. Invasive predators like stoats, rats, and cats devastated their population over centuries. Today, thanks to one of the most intensive conservation programs in the world, around 250 Kakapo survive — every single one named, monitored, and protected on predator-free islands off the New Zealand coast. They are critically endangered, and their survival depends entirely on human intervention.

This tote carries their story. Wear it. Share it. Keep the conversation alive.
